OUR SATURDAY SCHEDULE
Saturday
mornings are run over two time slots –
o
9.00 am until 11.00 am for beginners and intermediates
o
10.00 am until 12.00 pm for the more experienced players.
Each session
comprises of one hour of coaching from our Badminton England
registered coaching staff followed by one hour of games.

COACHING
Stanford
Badminton Academy currently has one Level 2 and one Level 1
qualified coach both of whom are registered to Badminton
England.
An example of
the coaching sessions is as follows:
The Warm-up
o
Jog two lengths of the hall
o
Side steps, 3 one way 3 the other
o
Knees up one length of the hall and heels up back
o
General stretches.

Warm-up progression in to games...
o
Shuttle movements as shown in the clip below, (click on
link for a demonstration) .
o
3 shuttles are positioned on the half court as shown in
Fig 1.
o
1 person picks up the shuttle in the middle and moves it
to 1 of the 2 empty corners.
o
1 person picks up a shuttle from the corner at the same
time and moves it to the middle.
o
These movements are repeated for an amount of time
agreed by the coach.
o
The players get a brief rest and then the routine is
repeated.

The players
then progress onto the practice session:
o
Each week a different
shot is practiced.
o
This shot is then
progressed into a routine so that the players can
practice the movement required and understand when the
shot should be played.

Completion of beginner / intermediate session:
o
A session is normally
completed with an hour of games.
o
The games consist of
doubles, singles and various team games.
o
The session comes to a
close with “Round the clock”.

· The
routine for experienced players comprises of all of the
above except “Round the clock” although the routine is
technically more difficult.
o
Movement
around the court whilst playing shots (click on the link
for a demonstration).
o
The court is
set up with 3 feeders and one person playing the shots
as shown in fig 2
o
Each of the
feeders has to feed two different shots.
o
Player A
starts the routine by feeding a high serve to the back
of the court.
o
Player D
plays a drop shot and moves to the next position near
the net in the middle.
o
Player B
feeds a net kill which Player D performs and moves to
the back right corner.
o
Player C
feeds with a high serve which Player D performs a clear
and moves straight to the net.
o
Player C
then feeds just over the net to allow Player D to
perform a lift.
o
Player D
then moves to the middle where Player B feeds a smash.
o
Once Player
D has performed the smash the player advances to the
left hand side for a net shot.
o
Player A
feeds the net shot and then lifts for Player D to start
with a drop shot and the routine starts again.
